Development Director for the City of Cape Coral, Florida

Vince Cautero has served as the Community Development Director for the City of Cape Coral, Florida since October 2013. He has over 40 years of experience in urban and rural planning and served in planning management positions in both the public and private sectors. Most of his experience has been in the State of Florida where he has been practicing since 1985. He has worked for local governments and in the private sector in southwest Florida for over 16 years.

Mr. Cautero holds a B.S. degree in Urban-Regional Analysis and Planning from Buffalo State College and a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

His primary areas of expertise and interest are growth management, land use planning, project management, and consensus building. He authored an article on Growth Management in Florida for The Journal of Planning and Public Policy in 1991 and was named Public Official of the Year for 1996 by the Collier County Chapter of the American Subcontractors Association. He received the Roland Eastwood Planner of the Year Award from the Promised Lands Section of the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association in 2010. Additionally, he led project teams that received Awards of Excellence in 1992, 1997, and 2001, and an Award of Merit in 2000, from the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association and the Planning Innovation Award in 2010 from the Florida Planning and Zoning Association.

He served a term as President of the Springs Chapter of the Florida Planning and Zoning Association in 1988-89 and as Chair of the Promised Lands Section of APA-FL from 2005-07. In addition, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. 
 
Mr. Cautero is a graduate of the Leadership Collier Class of 2001 and the Leadership Cape Coral class of 2015. Vince served a term as District Governor for Rotary International District 6960 in 2009-10, which includes 51 clubs in eight counties in southwest Florida.

Vince’s hobbies include reading, traveling, collecting baseball memorabilia, and playing bass guitar.
