Sagar Shah, PhD, AICP
APA Manager of Planning and Community Health

Sagar Shah is the Manager of Research and Strategic Initiatives at the American Planning Association (APA). Sagar’s research interest includes investigating the role planners play in creating healthy communities with an emphasis on health equity. In this role, he produces applied research products to help local planning practitioners integrate health and equity into their planning practice. He is a core team member of APA’s Foresight Practice, where he works to prepare planners for the changing future. 

Sagar also leads the Upskilling Initiative at the APA, where he creates skills-related training and education for planners to help them manage change in their communities. 

Sagar holds a Ph.D. in Regional Development Planning from the University of Cincinnati and a Master’s degree in Planning from the University of Southern California. He is an accredited planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners.
